In an effort to bring awareness to the recent high profile youth violence in South Florida, two Miami inner city schools hosted a program called ‘This Could Be You’ … Presented by community groups affiliated with the Family Safety Net First Responders Service Partnership and funded by The Children’s Trust, the program featured a faux funeral along with a gray casket and guest speakers from local clergy, Miami-Dade police department, Miami Children’s Hospital and Wright & Young Funeral Home. The powerful message urged students to reject the violence that surrounds them. I had the opportunity to cover the events at Miami Northwestern Senior and Booker T Washington High Schools last Tuesday.

Broward College hosted a scholarship breakfast for disadvantaged youth last week at the Ft. Lauderdale Beach Hilton Hotel. About 150 donors along with the sponsored students attended. Have a look at the ‘Handy’ website here.

Broward College hosted a fund raiser yesterday at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on Ft. Lauderdale Beach. It was a fairly large event with approximately 400 guests attending … I felt a little overdressed in my suit while walking on A1A to the shoot (at 11am).

Mitsubishi, one of Barrington Irving’s (Experience Aviation) biggest sponsors, held a gathering at the Miami Airport Marriott hotel last night … attended by a variety of state, federal and private company representatives. The following day, I also covered Barrington as he spoke with students at Miami Edison High School.

Finally made it over to the local renaissance festival again this year … The weather was perfect, people were friendly and the performers were great !

Just finished up a two day shoot (2/23-24) covering the Dalai Lama’s visit to Nova University and Broward College …

Broward college held it’s annual financial aid workshop at central campus last Saturday morning (2/20) … BC staff provided guidance for parents and students as they navigated through the paperwork and online forms needed.

Professional Development Day occurred last Friday morning (2/19) at Broward College’s central campus … The morning began at Bailey Hall with a large awards ceremony followed with breakout sessions.

Several artists were featured last Wednesday night (2/17) during Broward College’s Black History Month art exhibit at the downtown headquarters building. It turned out to be a long work day for me … starting with overtime at the control tower (3-6am), followed by my normal FAA shift (6am-4pm), THEN the photo shoot from 6-9pm … wow !
